This year marks five years since Guardian Watchmen and resource stewardship staff from coastal First Nations started gathering to share, strategize and build skills. The 5th Annual Guardian Watchman Conference was held at the Hakai Beach Institiute on Calvert Island, where eight Nations met to discuss issues of common concern on the Central and North Coast and Haida Gwaii. Participants practiced strategic communication techniques for working with the public, gathering evidence and note-taking on suspicious activities and assessing salmon habitat features in streams.

We'd like to thank the Sierra Club of BC, Tula Foundation, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Tides Canada and the Nature Conservancy for their generous support that made this Fifth Annual Gathering happen. Check out the conference webpage and slide show here.
